Framing the Problem

Many patients rely on time-sensitive medication.

Missing a dose can reduce effectiveness or cause health complications.

However, traditional reminders like phone alarms or calendar notifications are often:

• Overlooked among many notifications

• Silenced or snoozed and forgotten

• Difficult for older adults or less tech-savvy users

Idea Explanation

 An AI-powered medication reminder system that calls or texts you — personally.

Instead of a generic alarm.

• Users complete a simple form to set their medication reminders.

• Users receive warm, conversational phone calls or SMS messages that feel like a helpful check-in rather than just a notification.

Implementation

• Frontend React JS — clean, simple form

• Backend: Python FastAPI — seamless websocket connection

• Communication Twilio — handles calls & SMS

• AI Voice/Message Gemini LLM — generates warm, personalised messages

Challenges

• One challenge was setting up and integrating the Twilio and Gemini APIs. Implementing the WebSocket API and using port tunnelling to integrate Twilio with Gemini was quite challenging.

• Another challenge was building a clear and simple solution within a limited timeframe, so we focused on delivering a working MVP first.

Accomplishments

• We learned how to configure a WebSocket server to bridge LLMs and Twilio for AI-assisted voice interactions.
